Five Girls Sing National Anthem

Sorry, this didn't get moved over properly on my previous post. Let's try again!!! :)

Forget American Idol...these girls are awesome!

I just watched this video and my first thought was that they are much better than some of the contestants on American Idol right now! Wow! I still like David Cook, though.

Oh Nevermind...I forgot!

When I was driving in the car a little while ago, an 80's song came on the radio. It was by Tiffany and was entitled, "I Think We're Alone Now." I turned it up and sang every word, since (I admit) I was a huge Tiffany fan back in the day. I was shocked that I even remembered the words, seeing as how if you had asked me to sing it without the music I would have been lost (there's a game called Songburst where I encounter the same problem).

So, how come I can remember every word to a song from 2 decades ago, but I can't remember something simple..like what I need to put on my grocery list, even though I could think of all the things I needed when I was in the shower this morning!

I had a class that discussed this phenomenon when I was in my undergraduate psych classes....I just can't remember the scientific answer that made perfect sense when I learned it... Any ideas?

Small Gifts

I'd like my children to grow up without stress. Wow--wouldn't that be great if I could actually accomplish that ginormous feat? I'd like them to grow up living a carefree, simple life that children should have (up to a certain age). I remember when I was a kid, I lived a slow-paced life. I was able to go for long hikes in the woods with my Dad and Grandpa. I learned to recognize birds by their song or chirp. I learned how to skip rocks on water by first using careful discrimination of which stones were flattest and smoothest. I climbed pecan trees, and would hungrily scarf down as many pecans as I could before having to take the rest of the load inside to my Mom. Windy days remind me of flying kites in the Spring, and blowing, swirling leaves in the Fall. I remember all of this and not having to bother thinking about what I had to do when I got home, or running through my to-do list in my head as I'm enjoying a hike. I remember the luxury of being present in the moment. I hope and pray that I'm able to pass that on to my children, just those few small gifts in life: happiness, peace, and contentment.

That being said, I messed up my pictures. I added some that weren't supposed to be there, and left off some that I intended to include. Ah well...I'll be content with it anyway!

Pictures!

Ok, so I've been slacking on adding pictures to my blog. To be honest, I'm not so good at navigating around my blog, yet. I know I've had it for a while, but I just haven't taken the time to learn the "ins and outs." Imagine that...not enough time to do something! Most of the blame for that falls directly on ME, but an eensy-weensy part of it is that my son has decided that naptime is overrated, so I haven't had much alone, Mommy-time lately! I'll try to do better! :)

Happy Easter!

Here's wishing for much joy and love for all of you on Easter this year. Remember, it's not about the bunny or eggs or how much chocolate and peeps we can stuff in our mouth. It's about the hope and grace that is provided through Jesus for every one of us. I pray that this Easter will be full of hope and grace for you!

Goodwill Hunting

I tried something a few days ago which I never thought I would....I shopped at the local Goodwill store! Now, I don't have anything against Goodwill, I just have never gone inside before. They recently relocated the one in Hsv to the south end, near my son's school. I make donations there a few times a year, but it used to be in a not-so-great part of town, so I never went inside. Well, the other day a friend of mine said that she had found some great stuff in there for her daughter, most of it with the tag from Target still on it (I guess Target donates a lot of extra clothing there). So, I decided to go for it.

Here's what I got:
a brand new pair of shorts for my son
brand new swim trunks for my son
brand new shirt and skirt for my daughter
a pair of barely used dress shoes for my son
a brand name pair of jeans for me

All of that (most of it BRAND NEW) for only $15!!!!

Wow...ok, I'm sold now! :)

Go Goodwill!

Ouch.

Too bad they don't make Band-Aids for all kinds of hurt. We need a mighty big Band-Aid for our church right now. :(

I guess that is what prayer is for.
